Winnipeg-based Composites Innovation Centre Manitoba Inc. (CIC) and Melbourne, Australia-based Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Composite Structures Ltd. (CRC-ACS) have signed a memorandum of understanding. The two composite development centres will work together in the development and commercialization of composite materials and process technologies.

“CIC is involved with numerous projects with industry covering many business sectors,” said CIC’s executive director Sean McKay in a press release. “Due to our size and focus on specific core competencies, it is unrealistic to be able to properly support all [our customers’] needs with internal resources only.”

CIC also noted that relationships with other composite experts will help it expand its services for customers and enable them to be more competitive.

CRC-ACS is a leading global composite research organization, and the partnership will include leading composites businesses, government research laboratories and Australia’s foremost universities in composites research.

The CIC is a not-for-profit research centre that focuses on projects in four main sectors — aerospace, biomaterials, ground transportation and civil infrastructure — and helps advance core technologies such as liquid resin molding.
